Protection tips against lightening and storms

Lightning is a natural phenomenon. It’s an electric discharge of atmospheric nature that occurs between clouds or between the cloud and ground.
Atmospheric discharges have a high destructive power, given the lightning current (2-200 kilo-amperes), despite its short duration, whose critical period is in the range of tens of microseconds. Meanwhile, only a portion of the energy available in the lightening will reach different consumer units of low voltage network: homes, schools, hospitals, industries, telecommunication stations, offices, etc.
These "lightening rays" can cause destruction of homes that may be affected and often cause "explosion" of the power grid transformers, in addition to damage to appliances, even if the discharges have fallen a long distance from residences.

How to protect yourself during storms?

  • Do not bathe during thunderstorms;
  • Do not use electrical tap or shower;
  • Avoid contact with any object that has metallic structure, such as stoves, refrigerators, faucets, pipes, etc;
  • Avoid connecting appliances and electric motors, so that they do not get damaged
  • Move away from outlets and avoid using the telephone;
  • Disconnect all electronic outlets such as televisions, computers, and Sound systems;
  • Disconnect the wires from the antenna apparatus.
