Caring with electricity close to water

In the bathroom, a basic safety standard has to be met: where there is water, there should be no electricity, because water is a conductor of electrical current.
Do not touch electrical appliances when you're in the bath, in the bath or shower or beside the washing basin, because there’s a danger of electrification and death by electrocution. It’s enough to have wet hands or feet for this to happen.

Portable electrical appliances, the bathroom appliances specifically designed for this division, equipped with double insulation (Class II). Heating appliances: they must be powered by their own power supply circuit (they cannot be connected through plug and socket). We recommend a high-sensitivity differential protection for such circuits.

In case of fire of electrical origin, disconnect all electrical installation. Use extinguisher, never water.

  • Keep electrical appliances away from sinks, tubs, wet surfaces and damp locations. Even off, they can cause shocks.
  • If an appliance falls into water, unplug the socket before retrieving it.
  • Only wash a device if the manufacturer's guidelines so specify.
  • Keep cables and cords out of the areas of movement of persons and free of oil and water.
  • If you need to use tools outdoors or in wet areas:
    1. Make sure that they are suitable for outdoor use.
    2. Use doubly insulated or properly grounded facilities. The exterior sockets should also be resistant to rain covers.
